About Us In Depth

Clive Conway Celebrity Productions Limited is the company behind the box office revolution that is An Audience With.

Based in Oxford, since 2001, we produce shows in over 200 theatres up and down the country from Aberdeen to Taunton. We bring you the most engaging personalities whether they are Tony Benn, John Sergeant, Michael Portillo or Baroness Shirley Williams.

The format of the shows is very simple. In the first half the personality discusses their life and work with the interviewer and in the second they take questions from the audience. This intimate, interactive aspect makes An Audience With a memorable experience for any audience. The evenings are simultaneously humorous and thought provoking. When asked about the success of An Audience With, Clive Conway says:

People are always interested in meeting their favourite personalities and hearing what they have to say. We have been thrilled with the response that we have had to our shows with many of our audiences returning to them again and again.

As well as An Audience With we produce light entertainment consisting of poetry, literature and music performed by some of the countrys best-loved entertainers including Robert Powell, June Whitfield and Edward Fox.

who is clive conway

Clive Conway is the theatrical impressario behind the phenomenon that is, An Audience With. His guests range from leaders of political parties and journalists to DJs and actors and he is responsible for a box office revolution.

Born in Whitechapel, London 1953 Clive went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music alongside the great Sir Simon Rattle and Annie Lennox.

After graduation, Clive toured for several years as a flute recitalist and made a number of commercial recordings. Having built up a network of friends and colleagues in the theatrical and musical worlds, Clive felt that he had a unique opportunity to make the move from musician to producer and went on to produce several anthology performances that toured the country extensively in the 1990s. He worked with several well-known actors including Penelope Keith, John Nettles and Edward Fox, among others.

The very first An Audience With., in 2001, featured Tony Benn. The evening was a major box office success and Clive Conway Celebrity Productions has now grown to have an annual turnover of well over 1 million. Conway has enabled theatres to expand their audiences and has found a use for theatres on nights when they would otherwise be standing empty. Since 2002 Clive has worked closely with Sir David Frost whose links with the political world have proved an invaluable asset. In 2004 Clive Conway Celebrity Productions visited over 100 theatres across the country managing 300 productions ranging from An Audience With Tony Benn to a Christmas concert presented by Esther Rantzen. Tony Benn attracted a sell out audience of 2400 at the Royal Festival Hall and was joined on tour by John Prescott, Mick Hucknall and Kirsty Young as well as the worlds media.

Clive lives in Oxford where in his spare time he attends the Oxford International Flute Summer School which he originally co-founded with his colleague Janet Way.
